Boron is a very important element that influences water uptake into cells, pollen development and germination, and fruit and foliage formation. It is also important for sugar transport within the plant, which ensures proper plant growth. A lack of boron causes severe metabolic changes in the plant, such as growth deformities, abnormal fruit and foliage development, reproductive disorders, the withering of growth cones, and ultimately, the death of the plant itself.

Boron deficiency can develop:
in soils with low organic matter content;
in light and acidic soils;
in alkaline soils, especially those that have been recently limed;
in light soils, where boron is washed out after heavy rains.
